Artist's Description
daguerreotype of THOMAS GEORGE WEST, Corporal (later Sergeant) in 2nd South Carolina Infantry, Kershaw's Brigade. Sgt. West fought in every major battle in the Army of Northern Virginia under Gen. Robert E. Lee until captured at Cedar Creek in Oct. 1864. He spent 8 months as a POW at Point Lookout MD prison came.
